The Return of Friday (8/3/07)

So I’m not sure if anyone who doesn’t re-read all the week’s posts has noticed this, but the past couple of weeks have actually been pretty slow on this board. This is kind of a pain when a person is bored and wants to be entertained by all you loonies, but it’s great for the person who has to spend copious amounts of time writing Weeks in Review. And I’ve been busy the past couple of weekends, so the shorter writing time was good.

This week, not so much. The board is back, and with a vengeance. The Review is also back (on Friday), and with a vengeance. Or something like that.

Even the Victory was busy with all sorts of important news:

- The wristbands have probably been ordered. Hope you all put your order in!

- bludden did karaoke and is brave enough to show us. Jackie is planning to provide back-up dancing for the Whitney Houston karaoke on the upcoming cruise. She is also brave.

- Thanks to Sixthman, we received free copies of Paste (not Pasta) Magazine, which also offered a good subscription deal to those of us in the US and a free CD to those of us with mailpeople who don’t steal our CDs.

- More Brits are coming. Maybe they’re planning to take over the ship…

- The SoCal gathering is, as usual, ridiculously over-organized, despite the fact it’s not happening for several weeks. They need to be more like the NW folk, who have decided on a time and place and apparently need no more organization than that. And Rena has a boyfriend!

- Miami hotels are officially scary. Hopefully Sixthman will protect us from the demolitions and crack dealers by finding a host hotel.

- You can now find any information you would ever need to know about cruising, thanks to NikkiPoooo, Amicus, NiceyDoodle, michelesobo, and Suebee42. You can also be reminded of the beauty that is the chocolate melting cake, thanks to me.

- dr.evil resurfaced to supply us with information on Grand Cayman and Jamaica. When going on the incredibly fun-sounding excursions, it is probably best to not buy dried plants from the friendly men on the dock.

- Many people are hoping for the return of Guitar Hero on the next cruise. I’ve still never played it.

- Lauren has made an archive of all the e-mails sent to us from Sixthman. This is a good thing.

- If you live in the US, you get even more perks – you can also win a cabin on our cruise!

And that’s it for what you actually need to know. So it’s on to the useless, but oh so entertaining stuff, starting with the Indian Library:

- In which I posted many pictures from Guster concerts. Not like any of you care.

Meanwhile, over in the Caribbean Lounge:

- folkstar also posted Guster pictures (and movies) from the MA show. Even if they’re better than mine (and they pretty much are), I’m still jealous.

- The Joe Self auction is ending sometime tonight. I want the duck.

- I was gratified to see that others had as much trouble picking their Top 10 BNL songs as I did. Suck it up, people. I want to read others’ favorites!

And now, settle in and get comfortable because we’re on to the Buffet now, and it’s going to be awhile (we’re talking Harry Potter-length here…):

- Guster has lots of cool merchandise for sale, none of which was purchased by me when I had the chance last weekend. Garyrulez dresses his kid in entertaining clothing.

- We reached the EXACT HALFWAY POINT to the cruise last Friday. It’s all downhill from here!

- WildEagle is back. And needs to post more, since I don’t really want to overtake him in the post counts…

- WeedMage’s cousin is a Hondell (I am weirdly amused by that name) and was in a cheesy beach movie. Many other people’s relatives were also in cheesy movies.

- joyful1 had a really good weekend.

- The Ben Folds cruise was canceled, either due to low sales or to scheduling conflicts. Doesn’t he understand that cruises should take precedence over all else when scheduling?

- Some people are really into Jesus Christ Superstar.

- Hairspray brought back up that old, beloved debate about whether it’s better to see a movie at home or in the theater.

- Tom Snyder died. My parents wouldn’t let me stay up that late when his show was on.

- Crazy cats, cats with “presents,” cats on fire, cats on anti-depressants… And people wonder why I’m not a cat person…

- Capri pants are not cool for men. But neither are most other leg garments, so just give up and be dorks.

- More people finished Harry Potter. Does that mean I can spoil the ending yet?

- John from Cincinnati is still confusing, still frustrating, still underutilizing Luis Guzman, and still watched.

- It’s creepy the way famous people often do die in bunches.

- There will be a Renaissance Fair in Gig Harbor, WA on August 18. Hopefully the Mud Show and the Pickle Boy will be there too, because I am now quite intrigued.

- polyester_angel bought a new camera, which is cool. But nowhere near as cool as my camera. Other people think their cameras are cool too.

- personal venus hit 3000! And 2kids5cats is only 17 away! Yay for the people who post way more than is probably healthy!

- sarah11918 is going to Washington, DC and definitely does not have time to do all the activities that have been suggested. And whichever ones she does do, she should not bring her gun, explosives, hairspray, knives…

- Does anybody know a spice that starts with “z?” Because the ABC game needs your help!

- There were more stupid quotes. Stupid quotes make me happy.

- Bacon came back again. Has there ever been a better thread?

- There is also a thread entitled “Joy Division” which discusses a movie called “Control.” I do not understand this.

- Shell’s on vacation in Chicago and Ohio. But he’s still posting. Shell understands what is proper and right in a message board contributor.

- The bridge collapse in Minneapolis is extremely horrible.

- There were complaints made about how slow the board was. Whatever, people. Whatever…

- MoodyCat needs help in alleviating boredom, since she lives in what is literally the only place on the planet where one can not buy Harry Potter.

- PA wants a laptop. She would like it to be pink.

- Some people got their Ships and Dip signed posters. I’m still waiting for mine… In the meantime, we all got to enjoy finding out the locations of Ellen and stephg (and me ) in the naked photo.

- People really liked the Simpson’s Movie. I should go see that.

- taco wants to find 13 year olds on this board. There really aren’t too many, are there?

- Apparently, most people on this board have been to a greater variety of concerts than I have. Many of those people are also big fans of Chris Hansen.

- Your printer is going to kill you. Sorry.

- Good news is good. There should be more of it!

- I wonder if they’ll go on MySpace to announce it when that BNL baby (who, I believe, is Jim’s) is born…

- Or maybe Facebook, since everyone in the universe (and their pets) seem to be on it. Except me.

- The Guys talked about Doritos, Barry Bonds, technology, dead baseball players, Michelle’s trip to Cape Breton, and the fact that we’re all going to be missing the NHL All-Star game this year.

- WeedMage is calling her new fish Elwyn or Lukey, not Etienne (which is French for Stephen in France – a fact we all know thanks to our lovely textbooks) or Alpha… the Beta.

- The Carbon Leaf percussionist is leaving the band (which sucks, since I hadn’t gotten around to seeing them yet). Tod is too.

- WeedMage is calling her new fish Elwyn or Lukey, not Etienne (which is French for Stephen in France – a fact we all know thanks to our lovely textbooks) or Alpha… the Beta.

- There was an almost ridiculous amount of Girl Talk about the arrival of yaya (the sister-in-law of CayCay), a possible string drinking game, the way we compare current guys to those of our pasts, athousanddreams’ guy (who turned out to be 17 and clingy), the premature end to her celibacy vow, the appropriate respective ages of people when dating, the fact that I can’t find anyone to date (no matter what their age), Yay4BNL’s new roommate/crush, and PA’s fight and resolution of fight with her friend.

- We can now see what others see when looking at their computer desktops. Very pretty.

- The random thread continues in the glorious randomness that is itself.

- joyful1 made some cool jewelry and incited jealousy as a result.

- AZSally’s article is online, where it will only increase the desire for January that so many of us feel.

- LCD TVs are probably cool. I won’t be buying one any time soon.

- Horatio Cane is a thing of beauty. He thinks so too.

- Although the Canadians do not get a cheap subscription to Paste, and although they can not enter to win a free cabin from Sixthman, they can take comfort in the fact that their currency is poised to totally kick our currency’s ass.

Here, I stop. Partly because the storm outside is making me think that I might soon be losing power. But mostly because I’ve run out of things to write.
